| The Training Grounds are a place for members to develop their abilities as writers and storytellers. As such, it is important to be mindful of a few things during your time here: - Follow the rules - All normal board rules apply within this section, including, but not limited to, no flaming, no spamming, no porn, no illegal activity, no advertising, etc.
- No self-promotion - This includes attempts to promote and redirect traffic to your personal websites, blogs, or fan fictions. You can use writing snippets from those sites as examples of areas where you're having trouble, but that's all.
- Training threads only - The Training Grounds are for improving your writing and only that. Don't post invites to quests, discussions about pop cultures, or questions about random stuff in here, as that's all considered spam and is against the rules.
- Check elsewhere - TPP is a big place and the staff have tried to make it as intuitive as possible. There are plenty of guides and stickies throughout the board that have probably already answered some of your questions. Be sure to check for answers before posting here. The Navigator and Game Lore forums will usually have lots of material that can help you out.
- Be clear about your intentions - It will make things a lot easier for everyone if you come in with a specific question you want answered or piece of writing that you want looked at. Don't just make vague statements like, "I can't write, please help" or people might think you're not take you seriously and just skip over you.
- Be patient - If you make a post in the Training Grounds and no one responds to it, don't incessantly start bumping the thread with spam posts and don't throw a fit or start PMing the staff to complain about it. We don't have to help you at all; we choose to, so be respectful of our own obligations and time. If no one is helping you, it could be that everyone is busy with other things or your request is such that no one feels qualified to help you. Check to make sure that your post is clear and as specific as possible.
- Be respectful - If someone does offer you constructive criticism, be respectful of their willingness to help you. You have a right to disagree with anything that is said, but you don't have a right to tell them off or insult them. Remember, they're only trying to help.
- Be willing to learn - Obviously, that's why you're posting here: to learn. If someone offers you legitimate feedback, be willing to see where you might have made a mistake and take the necessary steps to correct it. If you come off as thick, stubborn, or just plain unteachable, no one will want to help you.
- Be helpful - This is a place of learning, not a fan club or a roast. If you're going to reply to someone else's thread, make sure your posts are constructive and geared towards that person's overall improvement. Out of Character commentary is acceptable here, since it may be needed to convey your point, but make sure it's relevant.
Follow those rules and everything should be fine. If you any have questions, ask a mod. |
